Bond sits at a table playing his favourite game, chemin-de-fer, all the while observing a beautiful lady at the same table. The famous line ‘Bond, James Bond’, is born from this scene as Sean Connery, smoothly introduces himself to both the viewer and Sylvia Trench (the first bond girl), and therefore it is only fitting that this be top of the list. This opening scene is a great characterisation of Bond, and also highlights Connery’s resounding performance. It also introduces what will become key features in the films: daring missions, attractive women and gambling.
